Jimbo Fisher has his quarterback of the future in Longview product Haynes King, who committed to the Aggies over the likes of Tennessee and Auburn. King, who is rated as the third best dual-threat quarterback in the country according to 247sports, led Longview to a perfect 16-0 season and the program’s first state championship in 81 years. King’s commitment continues A&M’s strong start to the 2020 recruiting class where they are ranked ninth by 247sports.
Texas and defensive line coach Oscar Giles have had an outstanding week recruiting. The Horns won a major in-state battle with Texas A&M for four-star defensive tackle Vernon Broughton out of Houston on Wednesday evening. At 6-foot-5, 286 pounds, Broughton is ranked as the sixth best defensive tackle in the nation and tenth overall prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports. Texas followed that up on Thursday with a commitment from Utah three-star defensive end Van Fillinger, who chose the Longhorns over LSU, Michigan, and UCLA. The future's looking bright on the defensive line in Austin.
Both Texas and Texas A&M had a top 5 recruiting class in 2019 and have high expectations for the 2019 season. Texas is coming off their first ten win season since 2009 and A&M is looking forward to Jimbo Fisher’s second year in College Station.
