A New Kind of Horror with Angels of Death
Writer: McKay Patrick
Hello all! I’m back with another anime review and I think you’ll find it quite interesting. To be perfectly honest, I was only interested in watching the hit horror series, Angels of Death because of a particular character by the name of Zack. His design had intrigued me so much that I decided to watch the first episode of the series without any knowledge of the plot whatsoever. I was surprised by how much I had enjoyed watching it.
For those unaware, Angels of Death is a horror anime series recently adapted from a video game of the same title created by Makoto Sanada. The story follows Rachel “Ray” Gardner, a 13-year-old girl who has recently witnessed a murder and is sent to a hospital for counselling. Not long after she arrives does she wake up in an unfamiliar building with no recollection of how she got there. She eventually meets Isaac “Zack” Foster who, despite being an enemy at first, makes a deal with Rachel that will allow them both to escape. Alive or not? Well, I’ll let you figure that out on your own.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Rachel and Zack develop overtime. Even though Zack has a temper and a filthy mouth, he slowly starts to soften up thanks to Rachel’s monotone personality. Bizarre I know but also sensible if you think about it. They say opposites attract and you see that quite a bit in this series.
I had a lot of questions afterwards pertaining to why certain characters believed in certain ideas and how it all came together but overall I enjoyed the show. There was a huge plot twist that I’ll admit I had no idea was coming. I don’t think most people could have figured it out. Unless of course, you had played the game beforehand. I loved the soundtrack and the dubbed voice actor for Zack was phenomenal. It’s not easy voicing a temperamental, raging lunatic but Dallas Reid found a way and it was quite terrifying.
This anime series isn’t for everybody but I’d recommend everyone try to give it a watch. At the least, you can appreciate the voice acting and design of the characters. It’s definitely one of the most interesting series I’ve watched.
Hope y’all enjoyed this review! Let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to review next! Comments and suggestions are always welcomed!
