Rangers, Fister Break Ground In Free Agency

Rangers Agree To 1 Year Deal With RHP Doug Fister
And so it begins…
The Rangers broke ground in free agency last week with the signing of veteran starting pitcher Doug Fister to a 1 year deal worth $3.5 million.
Fister posted a 4.88 ERA in 90.1 innings with the AL East division champion Boston Red Sox this past year, and while those numbers aren't the greatest, for $3.5 million, it's not the worst this team could've done.
Fister’s ERA has gotten progressively worse over the past 3 years, and his performance in Globe Life Park (1-5, 8.73 ERA) leaves many wondering why in the world the Rangers signed this guy. It's definitely a head scratcher, but the Rangers could be onto something here.
A recent report claimed the Rangers are looking for the next Charlie Morton, and Doug Fister just might be their guy.
The deal also includes $500,000 in incentives with an option for 2019.
Welcome to Arlington, Doug!
