Carlotta Meets the Lyons..and Fans LIVE for it!

Lee Daniels, the Mastermind behind both Star and Empire, never expected the two music industry soaps to cross paths. But now, you literally can't watch one without the other, and viewers couldn't be happier. "I never saw Star as a part of Empire, ever. It's its own entity, and another part of my life that I was trying to explore as an artist, but then fox suggested it and then it sort of seemed logical, so I just went with the flow," Daniels told the Hollywood Reporter. So far, months later, we've found out that years ago, Star's Carlotta (Queen Latifah), sang backup for Lucious (Terrence Howard) when she was an R&B duo with Star's mother. Early on in the premiere episode of Empire, we see Carlotta reunite with Luscious, meet the equally fabulous Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson), in need of guidance with her newly signed girl group, Big Trouble, knowing nothing of his traumatic brain injury. Meanwhile, Cookie carries most of the weight at the label with her son Andre's help (Trai Byers), while Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and Tiana (Serayah McNeill) work on their relationship, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) continues to create new material with his new artists, and Luscious rediscovers himself. On the other side of the spectrum, the girls fight to launch their post Atlanta NextFest, writing new music for their debut album... which still doesn't have a release date, all while Simone's (Brittany O'Grady) lives a horrible life in a group home, Alexandra moves past her alleged miscarriage, and Star (Jude Demorest) learns it's not always best to take matters into her own hands. Nonetheless, the "Big Trouble" girls have a lot standing in their way, but they should be just fine with the Lyons of Empire backing them.
