Did Apple Troll Us With The iPhone 8?

Writer: Jake Joseph

September 12th might have been a normal day for some people, but to millions around the world it was a day met with much excitement. Apple held its #AppleEvent. This year also marks the company’s 10 year anniversary of the iPhone, so people were definitely intrigued to see how the company would celebrate and honor the iPhone. Along with the official introduction and announcement of iOS 11, Apple also announced its cellular capable Apple Watch Series 3, new live sports streaming on Apple TV 4K, the new WatchOS 4, and the much anticipated MacOS High Sierra. If you’re an avid “techy” you’re probably bursting at the seams over these new products. But if you’re anything like me and don’t really care about all that extra, we're going to focus on the thing I'm typing this article on right now, the iPhone.

At the event, Apple introduced 3 new products to its iPhone line. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Now here’s where the “trolling” begins. After countless speculation of what the iPhone would look like, Apple did nothing but change the material the phone was made with. The iPhone 8 and 8 plus share the same designed as the 7 and 7 Plus respectively, but now feature both a glass front and back with a color matched aluminum band. It comes in Silver, Space Gray, and a new and improved gold finish. You read that right, there's only 3 colors. Sorry to all the rose gold fans, but the updated gold color is all you’re going to get from Apple. Even though the phone is designed exactly the same as last year's model, they couldn’t even give us the same color range. The phone is priced starting at $699 for the base model, and starting at $799 for the plus model. The iPhone 8 is available for purchase now

The 8 is basically the iPhone 7S, but it’s okay that Apple trolled us, because the bigger surprise to the company’s 10 year anniversary is spectacular. In better news, the iPhone X was the clear winner out of the three new phones. Unlike the iPhone 8, the X houses an entirely new design from front to back. The phone features a full 5.8 inch display screen, glass, front and back, no home button, vertically positioned dual 12MP back cameras, and only comes in Silver and Space Gray. The X’s pre-order date is October 27th and is available November 3rd. The phone is priced starting at a whopping $999.

Even if you’re not impressed with the new design of the iPhone 8 or X, you should care about the updated technology that comes along with new iPhone models. Apple has finally integrated wireless charging, the phones have a Retina HD True Tone display with Dual‑domain pixels, a new camera sensor, and a faster, smarter, more efficient A11 Bionic chip to make your phone the best on the market.
