BREAKING: Kyrie Irving Could Be On The Move

Writer: Marcus Carr

The Eastern Conference could be in for a shake up. Cavs point guard, Kyrie Irving, requested a trade from the Cavs in July. Shams Charania, of The Vertical, reported today “Cleveland and Boston engaged in active trade discussions centered on Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas”. The trade is expected to include names like: Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart and fillers.

If the Cavs trade Kyrie they will be adding another weak defender in Isaiah Thomas. The Cavs signed Derrick Rose, Jeff Green and Jose Calderon in addition to their 22nd ranked defense. The Cavs are not only on the brink of losing Kyrie Irving, but also the brink of Lebron James departing from Cleveland for a second time. The additions to the Cavs roster still will not push them over the powerhouse Warriors, whose odds will only increase in the Finals if Kyrie does get traded.

Danny Ainge has all the assets in the NBA, players now, and draft picks later which makes them the perfect fit for acquiring Kyrie Irving. The Celtics recently traded down in the 2017 draft instead of drafting Markelle Fultz, Ainge and company took Jayson Tatum with the third pick. Danny Ainge was ridiculed by sports media for not unloading his trade pieces on players like Jimmy Butler or Paul George, instead he decided to hold onto his 2018 Nets pick, which is likely to be the first pick again. The Celtics could be in the perfect position to hold onto their 2018 Nets pick, and adding Kyrie Irving. The Celtics added Gordon Hayward this off-season during free agency after missing out on Kevin Durant in 2016.

The Celtics could be in prime position to own the East in 2018, their roster can consist of Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and their 2018 Nets pick and the Cavs would be in rebuild mode by Lebron’s departure and letting Isaiah Thomas walk.
